MEFA's Professional Development Point (PDP) Policy
Learn the basics on earning PDPs with MEFA through webinars, trainings, and MEFA Institute lessons.
MEFA is proud to assist school counselors, college access professionals, college administrators, and affiliate organizations in professional development activity, as we carry out our joint mission to help Massachusetts students and families plan for college and reach financial goals.
MEFA is certified by the Massachusetts Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) as a registered provider of Professional Development Points (PDPs). All college planning webinars, onsite trainings, and professional conference seminars given by MEFA are aligned with MASCA's MA Model and the Massachusetts Career Development Education (CDE) Benchmarks.
PDP Requirements
Massachusetts DESE requirements state that a Certificate of Completion certifying PDPs earned may be issued only after a minimum of 10 hours of professional development, supported by Evidence of Learning Forms. You may participate in 10 hours of professional development over the course of several trainings.
Requesting PDPs
To earn PDPs with MEFA, complete the following steps:
- Choose a MEFA Institute lesson, a MEFA training, or a MEFA Pathway counselor-specific webinar/training.
- If participating in a MEFA Institute lesson, read the lesson objectives and complete the lesson deliverables.
- Submit the MEFA Institute Evidence of Learning Form here for each lesson/training you complete.
MEFA awards 1 Professional Development Point (PDP) for every hour of professional development you complete. Once you have completed 10 hours of lessons and/or trainings, you will have earned 10 PDPs. At that point, MEFA will email you a PDP Certificate of Completion.
If you have questions at any time during this process, please contact the K12 Services Team at k12support@mefa.org.
